The IPL Frenzy

The Amount of money being poured in the IPL has surely generated a frenzy amongst bloggers. A few of them write;

Withfreshlime writes,

Cricket, Bollywood film stars and big bucks have come together to break with tradition.

Our cricket players – normally treated as kings – are reduced to mere pawns to be auctioned.

India – with its poverty and dust – is the site where millions of dollars change hands in front of the world’s television cameras.

And film stars – who may be idolised but are not normally considered the ‘brains’ behind the operation – become the team selectors.

What fun.

Vivek Raut writes,

Every dog has its day!!

This proverb is best suited for Indian Cricketers. There is absolutely nothing wrong in saying that if presented an oppurtunity money will always beat passion. If you ask a cricketer about his ambition, his reply would be that he wants to represent the country but he will never tell you what lurks behind in his mind which is ofcourse a big fat paycheck. If you still don’t agree then ask Anil Kumble why is he in the T20 team when he can’t even find a place in the 50 over game. He is not doing any charity work either. The fact is Anil Kumble is not there for playing cricket. His job is to pull crowd inside the stadium and pull money outside. IPL (Indian Premier League) has given aging players a last chance to hoard as much money as they can and secure their future. Even foreign players have set their eyes and don’t want to miss the bus. It doesn’t matter even if their price tag doesn’t show a amount greater than that of local heroes.

Pr3rna writes,

Australians may be the world leaders, but for the Indian market, Indians come first and the Australians second. Ponting, the captain of an extraordinarily successful cricket team and with an excellent batting average was expected to fetch more. But is $US400,000 a small amount? It is when you see the monkeygate key player Andrew Symonds fetch $1.35 million. Hyderabad Nizam’s is his proud owner. Ponting’s potential earnings may have suffered because of the Sydney Test against India but then why did Symonds go for more?

Hey!! where does all this money come from. Is this for real or just a game of numbers.
