Equinoise talks about an Indian Restaurant in Seattle

It is located in a massive space in a strip mall in Bellevue that seems suitable for weddings or large parties; I noticed a dance floor hidden under the lunch buffet trays, suggesting that the place doubles as a reception hall, a common practice in central NJ. What impressed me upon seeing the menu was first the diversity and ambition: the kitchen makes a wide range of styles, from south indian dosai, uttapams and pongal, to tandoor dishes, and even indo-chinese plates like “gobi manchurian”. More important, the menu has many dishes I’ve never seen elsewhere in seattle or the eastside such as “chicken kadai” or “lamb pepper fry”; many of these are designated “speciality”-Spice Route is aware that it is unique.

Funny you should bring this place up. It’s down the street from where I work and I’ve been there a few times. The food is so-so, especially if you’re Indian – some of the combinations seem odd (North India rotis with South indian curries). The variety is good, though.
Thanks for the feedback Umesh. I will keep myself away from this place then.
I have been a regular to Spice Route since they started, this is one of the best Indian restaurants on the east side. I am not sure why Umesh is rating the place as so-so with no solid reasoning. Here are my favorites
Gobi Manchurian
Chicken 65
Cilantro Dosa
Guttu Venkakura – I will keep going back just for this
Andra Chicken Pepper Fry
Pongal/Avial
Hope many other agree with me
Actually I went to Spice Route last weekend. I liked the place. The one thing that differentiates this restaurant from other Indian restaurants is the space. It is not crammed like the other ones. I also liked the menu very much. I will give a thumbs up for this one.
