Is Bangalore better than Chennai?

Anjali seems to think that Bangalore is better than Chennai when it comes to embracing immigrants. I think she doesn’t know that a big chunk of Chennai population are non tamils, including people from Armenia

A stark contrast to Bangalore is Chennai, where even if people know your language, they would not speak it, and would rather see you have a hard time communicating. The result is that no one wants to migrate to Chennai, and many of the talented people from Chennai have moved to Bangalore.

There is this controversial Three T’s theory (talent, technology and tolerance) of Richard Florida:

Bangalore seems to make one of the lists and Chennai does not. But I am partial to Chennai where I used to cut classes and wander around, book shops, libraries and beaches.

I love both places and fortunately have lived in both – Bangalore for 6 years and Madras for 2.

For me it is always Bangalore and Chennai.

Bangalore used to have little more clean water than Chennai. Weather- both had their strong points and weak. It would rain all the time at Bangalore while Chennai would not let me sleep peacefully for few summer weeks because of intense heat.

While every sunny day at Bangalore was almost made in heaven who can forget cycling down from IIT, Madras hostel to the main gate on a December day when smell of grinding coffee and wet vegetation alternated?

You get perhaps better Upama at Chennai and better Set Dosa at Bangalore.

Both places have most times very cultured people. Bangaloreans are more mild mannered people. Women are equally pretty at both places. In Bangalore, they seem more accessible than at Chennai.

    This and much more.

Now wonder both places are at vanguard of services industry.

I only hope they don’t fight a war over Cauvery water in 22nd century, a la Pulkesin and Pallavas.
