Can President Kalam be criticized

Himanshu writes

I’ve stopped following Indian presidential race now. It makes no sense now to follow it after all the logic has been thrown into a dustbin by our political class. However, one of my friends asked me that, do i have any point that says Pratibha Patil is a better candidate than Kalam. I didn’t had any point. However, if he would have asked me, is Kalam the best choice? I perhaps would have raised a few questions. It’s not that i am against Kalam. In fact, I have immense respect for him as one of the top scientists of India, as head of Missile division of DRDO and serving as its head for 8 years.

    I wish the people’s wishes had been given the consideration. Paramount majority wanted Mr KALAM to take second term, but if the choice was undivided said Kalam.
    Why did a man with who has spent the past few years developing the concept of “India Millennium Missions 2020″ -a blueprint for transforming India into a developed nation not realize the risk at the goodwill he had earned.

    What happened to the self-effacing person who can make people work?

    What was the confusion in the scientist mind who once said “Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our achievements? We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse to acknowledge them”. Why?

    What was his game plan? Was he tempted for a moment in the sun again?

    Was he deeply hurt?

    Did he become greedy or got politically wrangled?

    Abdul Kalam is a dreamer….Did he become desirous?

    Running for office, aspiring to represent our country is for power hungry politicians. Declining to stand is what our icons must do.

    @Shehla,

    You speak of accepting responsibility as an act of shame? Oh come on! Democracy is all about asserting an individual’s identity. Our country need leaders who do not run away from Responsibilities, instead accept the challenges and help India bring millions of poor out of poverty. Agreed, Kalam is no magician and doesn’t even possess any powers as a President to bring along a momentous change, but at least he’s a visionary, a dreamer, a passionate Indian who believes in rise of India.

    Is there any ground whatsoever on which you can defend nomination of Mrs. Pratibha Patil except that she’s a woman?

    @Krish

    :) I don’t watch CNN-IBN. In fact, I don’t watch television at all. Some problem with my cable wallah since past 3-4 weeks.
