Watching Anand Patwardhan’s Movies

Soul Curry watches Anand Patwardhan’s documentaries, Father, Son and the Holy War, A Mill Worker’s Story and Narmada Diary and is moved.

But the Narmada Diary was the one that captivated me. Medha Patkar is a strong woman. Her dedication to her work and the people is worth more than just a few awards. The movie showed the spirit of the people. The adhivasis stood up against the whole of Gujarat not to mention the rest of India. The documentary brings to light facts that were never even mentioned in the papers. Its the fight of a woman and he team and her people against the rest of the country. She has won a few battles but not the war.
