A Bitter Sweet Novel

Sourav Das reviews Khaled Hosseini’s novel The Kite Runner based on events in Afganistan after the Soviets “lent a helping hand” in 1978
The interesting part of the book however, is the references made to the Persian epic Shahnamah, and how it resonates with the story. The father-son relationship is described in the context of the characters Rostam and Sohrab - the former is the father of the latter, and kills him in the battlefield without knowing the same.
