Harsh writes on the ‘fifty years of solitude’ of Fidel Castro’s Cuba in the aftermath of his resignation as the President of his country,

Whether you like him or hate him, Castro is a leader who has made a name for himself in the world history. Rarely will any student graduate with a history degree without learning about this man. Castro once famously said, “Condemn me. It is of no importance. History will absolve me.” Castro, now 81, and afflicted by many diseases has finally given up. It is said that his younger brother, Raul, is the next favorite. When Castro was announcing his renouncement, the US was rejoicing. The US is supposed to have made many failed attacks on the revered Cuban Leader in the last five decades. Surprisingly, Castro survived all attacks, and has outlasted 10 American Presidents since then! From John F Kennedy to George Bush!
white as jasmine is, however, less optimistic on how history will treat Fidel:
i don’t know how history will remember fidel, but i doubt that future generations, when the smoke clears, will regard him as much more than a disruptive and curious footnote to the 20th century. he longed to be a heroic warrior-king, but became more of a crazed classical tyrant. if the last few decades of his rule can be personified almost entirely by his recalcitrant grudge against the united states, he proves to be more of a xerxes than a darius. other long departed 20th century figures (hitler, nasser, lenin) continue to influence global affairs more in their death than fidel does while living.

nice post..
Churhcill once said, “Every age has its great men, if not it produces them”
We couldnt have churchill, but sure did get to see Castro. :)
I am not sure if I’d have exactly admired Mr Churchill, but yes, I do agree with the statement in context of Fidel.
