A Date with Delhi

Arfi discovers that despite its much maligned reputation, he still has a nostalgia about the city.

Not many people, unfortunately have heard of Ahmed Ali and his amazing first novel, A Twilight in Delhi - which is also one of the first novels in English written by an Indian. The novel set in what is now Old Delhi, in the early years of the 20th century is as much about the changing times as about the melancholic mood – which I believe the city still carries.

Delhi as a melancholic city? Is it just me and my Lakhnavi melancholy that refuses to believe a statement like that?
