Aaja Nachle reviews

Blogger reactions on the dazzling Ms. Nene’s come-back movie “Aaja Nachle”.

Telugu Cinema Bioscope is completely bowled over:

The movie is an amalgamation of colour and culture. Everything is done to perfection in Aaja Nachle. [..] Madhuri Dixit is spellbinding on-screen! Her acting and dancing skills are simply exemplary. [..] All in all, Aaja Nachle is super-hit material. A fare that moves the heart and charms the senses; a wholesome family entertainer that shouldn’t be missed!

Ashok thought the movie was just about average

To sum things up, Aaja Nachle is a average movie which could have been a lot better, the script lets the director and the movie down. Yet another disappointment this year from the mightly Yashraj Films.

If you are a Madhuri Dixit fan, you might enjoy it. For the rest, watch it once for the sheer brilliance of Madhuri..

And, Mana Cinema Lokam found the screenplay a bit weak.

Bearing a striking similarity to the Brazilian film XUXA REQUEBRA, Jaideep Sahni’s screenplay is the biggest culprit here. The protagonist (Madhuri) knows that there would be hurdles galore on her way, as she embarks on a journey to realize her guru’s dreams. But she hardly struggles to achieve the impossible. Even the corrupt politician or the shrewd businessman, who could’ve proved to be tough nuts to crack, give in so easily.

And finally, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati found the lyrics of the title song objectionable and has banned the movie in the state.

The Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary, Shailesh Krishna, on being asked, said the film had been banned because there was an objectionable reference to a caste in its title song. “The reference to the caste is not only objectionable and humiliating but also unconstitutional and therefore the screening of the film has been banned in Uttar Pradesh,” he said.

Oh ok, so the last one wasn’t from a blogger, but surely it was an opinion.

What do you think?

Aaja Nachle directorship and choreography is not brilliant. Anil Mehta is NOT fit to be a director. All in all, the movie is upheld to the highest standards on the screen by DIA aka Madhuri Dixit. Full marks go to her. However criticism is to the director Mr. Anil Mehta. I would never ever trust him again. Madhuri Dixit Nene is capable of MUCH MORE than what she has been afforded the potential of. For example, Anil Mehta, could have shown some clips of her western dancing in the begining in a show in new york…Then before Dia leaves for America with Kunal Kapoor, they could have shown Madhuri Dixit dance full traditional classical nrityam number. Also the ending - Anil Mehta should have shown Madhuri Dixit dancing back into the fusion mode AAJA NACHLE EAST WEST COMBINATION. I definitely would have done a better job than Mr. Anil Mehta. Next time, Yash Chopra should recruit me as his consultant critic so that such anomalities are ironed out and there would have been more synchronisation of the flow between the explosive begining and the dullish intermediate and rather unexciting ending.

Never use the age old proverb ‘Sau sunaar ki, ek lohar ki’, again. You never know who is going to find that offensive too!

We are getting increasingly intolerant, competitively so, with each passing day. Most Urdu Shayars of yesteryears would have been in exile like MF Hussain for what they had written about liquor and God.

If you wish to, read my detailed views in my post on the sorry state of freedom of expression in a modern, secular India.

    Dear Babuji Yash Chopra: Namaskaram-Prannamm:
My heart bleeds for Madhuri Dixit Nene firstly because she has been deceived by your Anil Mehta and secondly she has been betrayed in her trust! I am a professional dancer since the age of two years. I have danced in front of many audiences. However, when the script comes to me and my insight finds it vague and incomplete, I do not perform nor do i choreograph the show. One cannot capture the imagination of a large social infrastructure that is fragmented, sensitively uprooted in diversity of cultural values and diversity of human values. However Anil Mehta is an Indian unlike me, born in India, he should know better what to avoid and what links to place so that the movie flows from the begining to the end. In strict fairness: Anilji has failed in the production of overall music numbers. Aaja Nachle as a title is fabulous but with a “AAJA HUM NAACHLE”. This title is three word and is lucky for YASH RAJ. Two is a number unlucky for all in the production reel. Astrologically, speaking, if the title was “aaja hum nachle”, with numbers of dance routines twelve [not nine] and film being more of musical from the begining to the end without any nonsense of caste stupendousness of horribly daunted India fragmented from the 17the century divided caste systems by the Aaryaans and Muslims; Yash Raj Chopra would have made a movie greater than HUM APKE HEIN KAUN/ DIL TO PAGAL HEIN.
If however the same movie idea was to be made in the year 2009, the title AAJA NACHLE would have succeeded. Astrologically, Madhuriji my precious precious respectable divine beauty of INDIA has setbacks. In this it is her time to learn the lessons of karma. This karmic lessons come to teach her about the corrupt society and mentality and attitudes of people of India. True to her INEGRITY, many politically astute figures are merely jealous of her being AMERICAN Indian. True to her finesse, Madhuri Dixit Nene, should have NOT completed the movie and should not have agreed its completion on the premise that is she had her reservations she should have been allowed freely to express them. Saroj Khan would have done a partnership job with Vaibhavi Merchant. There is so much missing you see. After all, when Madhuri Dixit Nene agreed to go to India, I was very sad because her timing was wrong. Astrologically she should have waiting until year 2008 and released a hit movie in 2009!
PLEASE INDIAN MEDIA MUST CORRECT A WRONGFUL FACT: MADS IS NOT 42 SHE IS ONLY 40 YEARS OLD.
Madhuri Dixit Nene is the equivalent of our Julia Roberts. Madhuri Dixit Nene should be careful never to trust people whom she has no experience of. MADs should certainly do another movie but this movie has to be about her true TALENTS and skills. Perhaps shot in AMERICA and CANADA, where she is boyountly lucky! She could be an Indian living abroad, promoting dance culture through her DANCE ACADEMY and this could be blossoming with boy and girl dancing fusion! I could prepare full scripts and the lyrics of songs should be very powerfully INDIAN with heavy fusion beats. This would turn out to be very interesting movie for younger westerners who are dying for Indian culture.

Aaja Nachle in the U.K. went better than any other YR banner in 2007 and the audience just loved the come back of the legendary Queen of bollywood. We in the U.K. were disheartened however because the movie does not show more dancing of Mads. Mads is like a wine that gets better with maturity!
Here is the common say of our audience:
“BRING MADS BACK TO DO ANOTHER BETTER MOVIE PLEASE!”
It would be futile if MADS stops here and resigns because of ‘Aaja Nachle’. But then again it is her choice. Her year 2008 should be a year of recaputulating and getting spiritually stronger. “Mads” must focus on her dance and extend it to flamenco dancing. The year 2009 holds promise for MADS. If any movies are made after 2008 Deepavali extended into 2009 released in 2009, the movie will be MADS NUMBER UNO BEST MOVIE SO FAR! However, the movie has to be very powerful movie, settings very extraordinary dynamic and dances most exuberent with mind blowing music………
If MadhuriJi is reading this, please take serious note.
Most importantly: Dr. Nene Ramji must support her now then ever before as MADS is vulnerable, sensitive and very talented person. She has highest integrity, professionalism and dignity that i have known in any of the indian film stars. No one will come close to her integrity and sincerity no one.
