Poetmaster gives it 2.5 stars out of 5, impressed with the acting but disappointed with the cliched end
Technically, the story moves in a rather jerky fashion throughout the narrative – someone likened it to watching a bunch of serial episodes together – and it takes a couple of sequences to get used to.
Yorick believes that if you love Delhi, you must watch the movie
The film is a homage to Delhi and Chandni Chowk, but it isn’t a letter of recommendation. It shows the beauty and grandeur of the city and the hearts of the people that live in it, but it also shows the squalor, the corruption, the blindness and the sheer stupidity.
Swat thinks it’s nowhere near Rang De Basanti
In my opinion, it is over all, a run of the mill movie and definitely not Rakesh Mehra’s best. Rang De Basanti was ten times better than Delhi-6. I would say it’s worth watching the morning show in a multiplex when you’re assured of getting attendance in college. That’s that. Three on five.
And finally, veteran blogger reviewer Meetu calls it..
A beautiful non-story with a very deeply-rooted, oft-repeated, overdose of standard philosophy [..]A mirror held up to society – not to reflect its filth but to spot that we are the cause and effect of our discontent and discord. What is Delhi-6? A bit of them all. And not any one thing in entirety.

A disappointment, I’d say, or maybe I went with very high expectations. Having been born and brought up in Delhi and now being away from it, quite obviously, I love the city. Very much. Delhi-6, however, hardly concentrates on Old Delhi! The only scene that truly captures the essence of Delhi is where a Muslim guy ties a red Hindu cloth around Abhishek Bachcan’s then-ailing grandmother and says, “Hanuman ji sab theek kar denge.” The rest of the movie, IMHO, is banal stuff that would make any Delhi-loving Delhiite go, “Oh, dear God!” Hindu Muslim riots? In Delhi? Seriously??!! The last time Delhi witnessed riots was in 1984- and those were Hindu-Sikh riots! Delhi is such a melting pot of cultures that one hardly comes across such pettiness! The end was positively ridiculous- straight out of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. And of course, the whole idea of an ABCD reforming Delhi-6 was a bit far-fetched. Or maybe I live in a very utpoic Delhi- but my point is, I’d like to see only THAT utopic Delhi.
It is the most fucked up movie of the year. There cannot be anything worst than this. Also sonam kapoor has proved again that she cannot act. Delhi is such a beutiful place and Mr Prakash Mehra (Whom I had immense regard for RDB) has created such a peice of shit.
One word .. dont watch…
This was the most anticipated movie for me.! but the moment I watched the movie I was highly disappointed. Although the cast was very Big, and had most popular actors like Rishi Kapoor, Om Puri acted it dint give a strong point in the movie.
Wen I watched the First part of the movie I was really bored. But I waited for Intermission as these days Bollywood movies have a critical turn in the movie story. But after the Intermission the movie was overall horrible
This Movie dint depict any Romance, Action, Comedy as the matter of fact I wont call it a Movie. I will call it a DRAMA. or a bundle of serials attached together and shown.
I give this movie not even 1 star. As there was no moment in the movie which was an eye catching and made me say “yeh thats what I m talkin about”.
i disagree with all the above comments. i give a 3.5 to 4 star out of 5 rating to this movie. yes i do feel that the movie has its own loop holes. the plus point of the movie is the good cinematography, the theme (huh different from the usual boring love stories). the screenplay and direction is good.i feel the dialogues should have been more strong. it depicts how blindly people in our country believe in things and how it could cause a tiff between religions. There is one scene in the last where abhishek bachan starts explaining about these blind beliefs and ompuri ridicules him that a foreigner is started talking philosophy. this attitude is there in every one of us in the country. we just dont want to hear or listen (not obey) but we ridicule when some one talks facts.
Sonam kapoor looks pretty but she needs to improve her hindi; specially her accent. She could be given a more significant role in the movie. Divya dutta’s flawless acting is remarkable. abhishek bachan is not upto the mark. Since he is an NRI in the movie he should have done a lot of homework regarding his attitudes, english accent etc. it seemed fake. Delhi has been portrayed quite well. the highlight of the movie is the music score by AR rehman who has done his job well. The music is fresh and dosent diminsh from the mind.
overall quite an entertaining movie.
I’ll rate this movie 4 out of five… Delhi-6, a really different movie… very practical.. I really liked Abhishek’s acting throughout the movie… I liked the fact that they had not shown the sudden and big variation comes to the very old system , culture n thinking just because a person from abroad arriving & stating his philosophies though he was right… But this is a fact… This is life. No one, no system actually transforms so easily, just with some good words. And only in films these kind of transformations are possible that people expect to see always… they expect there Hero to be a God… but dear all, an actor is to depict a character close to life.. why u expect a superhero always.. b real… I loved the movie.. with no overdoses & a great acting by Abhishek.. A must watch with open eyes!!!
Don’t wast time watchin this film……It’s like SWADESH…
This movie was a dissapointment! With all the publicity going on and the star cast, I expected a lot more. It was a boring movie which had neither good story, good direction or good acting. No romance, no action, no comedy. The whole ramayan and kala bandar thing was so monotonous. Only good thing about the movie was the music. The songs are awesome! So don’t waste your time watching the movie just listen to the music.
A very good entertaining movie. I will give 4 out of 5 for Delhi-6. This film certainly is not for ordinary common man, who like either non stop nonsense action movies with item numbers, or who like nonsense love stories like Kaho Na Pyar Hai. This movie is for intellectual types. People who watch movie for good photography, music, background music, screenplay, dialogues will certainly like it and will watch it twice. As far as ‘Rang De Basanti’ is concerned it was more successful among common man because of the taporigiri depicted in RDB and not because of its theme/story. Therefore, lay/common man has got no locus standi for commenting adversely about Delhi-6. Must watch movie and I will definitely see it second time on big screen.
main kya soch ke gaya tha aur mujhe kya mila dhokaaaaaaa.Bakwaas movie saala faltoo hain….dialouges me dum bilkul nahi hain…….abhishek k alwa sabne achchi acting ki.music okay.cinematography theek thaak. aur seriously mujhe Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Ji se aisi umeed nahi thi.main kitne dino baad multiplex gaya tha mere paise baarbad ho gaye. aaj maine 1 baat samjh li agar multiplex jaan hain to sirf aur sirf Aamir Khan ki movie k liye nahi to nahi jaaonga.
Delhi 6 is a movie you can either completely love.. or completely hate… Depends on what the viewer expects from movies.
If you expect some dramatics, fights with loads of stunts and colorful song sequences with some hot stylish heroine showing off her bod and dancing away to groovy tunes.. Dont go watch this movie!! It’ll be just waste of time for you.
But on the other hand, if you are a person who doesn’t mind a kind of slow, complicated but sensible story line, go ahead and watch it!!
I for one, absolutely loved the movie. The direction is simply brilliant. There are many rib-tickling scenes throughout the movie to keep you laughing all the way.
Abhishek is awesome in this movie.. he is the hero of the movie and yet, not the ‘traditional’ Hindi movie hero. He has played the role of an NRI guy who comes to India and tries to imbibe the various hues of our culture and battles to understand the mentality of an average Indian.
Sonam Kapoor looks very pretty but her role is wasted. Everyone else in the movie [Om Puri, Divya Dutta, Cyrus etc..] has done justice to their roles.
The director has cleverly used an abstract concept – “Kaala Bandar” and he has managed to show how it is enough to influence the minds of people. It becomes the root cause for various things – starting from small mischief leading to communal clashes and even to resolve the communal clashes!!
In some places the story moves too fast and some other places a little too slow… but all in all, it is in my opinion one of the most sensible movies I’ve seen in some time now.
delhi 6 is such a movie which cannot be judged as totally bad or god.it carries a lot of humour.two things i found most striking that man can fight in any issues as the hindu muslim riot came only for kala bandar and it also shows a rational bonding between indians as we see when wahida was ailing in hospital all gathered there.
This is a beautifull movie. With good acting, humour and substnace unusual to the routine sick indian masala movies. I, ofcourse, rate it better then all the usual shah rukh and salman movies but also for a score i would call it a bit better TZP. The bad comments i read above are obviously from people who go to movies for either over the air romancece stories, or for for flicks where hero heroines, at the drop of the hair, run away to foreign lands to shake their bingo hips.
Worst movie of the year! Makes absolutely no sense at all! For all the shortcomings slumdog millionaire had, I felt it was more tolerable and involving than this piece of s****. The characters are reduced to caricatures..abhishek’s accent is totally fake..sonam can’t act to save her life and atul kulkarni and divya dutta are done gross injustice. Bad direction, worse cinematography..and it only gets worse as the film progresses. The only saving grace is the music which is massacred by the way songs are shot. Eschew the movie viewing and stick to the music on your ipod or whatever. This one is a must stay away from!
excellant movie….every movie isnt a rang be basanti…..RDB was a different movie and this is different…a masterpiece of cinema, excellantly made with great performances from all the actors without an exception….every bit the the movie is related to the story and its a classic piece to be watched without any pre-assumptions in mind..the movie will be enjoyed if ur an indian with love for your city, whichever it may be….like one of the bloggers mentioned u either like it or hate..well i guess im the one who loves it…”A MASTER-PIECE BY A GREAT STORY-TELLER”…..MUST WATCH FOR EVERY INDIAN..
I love the ‘ burger chaap’ scene..reminds me of my UK returned fiancé, now husband..Lol thats what I used to call him when he would put on an accent and rush to the nearest Mc Donalds…Thanks Rakeysh it was a nostalgic experience…
The film had its moment and was great but let down in places.
THIS MOVIE ATE AWAY AT MY INSIDES. IT WAS TOO PAINFUL FOR ME TO SIT THROUGH. iF YOU ENJOY A MOVIE THAT IS STUPID AND SENSELESS, PLEASE WATCH THIS MOVIE. MEHRA HAS PISSED ME OFF!
What a crap movie! Read my review here:
http://vasukir.blogspot.com/2009/03/delhi-6.html
Its a wonderful sophisticated comedy. Unfortunately the idea of comedy is the loud David Dhawan-Paresh Rawal kind in India..and Delhi 6 doesnt bother with dramatizing anything so audiences feel nothing is happenening in the movie.
You need a sense of humour to enjoy it and everyone with a ‘kaala bandar’ inside them will hate the film coz the movie shows u a mirror of who you are.
Rang De Basanti being loud, dramatized and patriotic wud obviously find more acceptance..This being a dark comedy, doesnt come across to most viewers. The indian audience wants to idolise characters;
They dont want Waheedaji worshipping cows, Sonam being a Indian Idol wannabe and Abhishek getting beaten in the climax..coz thats more like the stuff we do in real life! We buy a ticket to see super heroes, not ordinary ppl like us.
a very very third grade movie.I have messed up 500 rupees for this film.
The movie is very chilled out…it has its own pace and best of all its believable..even more believable than hundreds of people dancing around cows n hill n what not:>…the usual…anyways its a good mellow hit if u want me to sum it up..but it all depends on how ure feeling inside…really? dosent it? cuz if ure feeling like crap..then how would i say this….the godfather would just be another flick that sucked….god forbid..peace and love
Ikdam bakwaas hai.Dekhkar time mat waste karna. The most borring movie of the year. Not at all good . its all crap . No storyline,no theme,no caption no good.
what the heck… what do you guys want in a movie?
This is pretty decent movie… 3.5 to 4 for sure. I actually loved the movie. nice and simple. Its not a run of the mill commercial movie. No partial nudity and false melodrama – now if thats what you are looking for i can understand the bad reviews. Well – there’s tons of the sort coming around – you might as well go watch them.
I almost did not go to see this one after reading the reviews. Glad i did go eventually.
brilliant cinema, a very ve message in the movie, a hero who gets beaten to death and says the people who killed him are very nice people…the sufi philosophy is central and the mirror is the real hero. There r some movies that r solely built around a core idea, in this case it being the poem Noor, which is recited by amitabh bhachan as the movie starts…another such example would be Arthsatya which was built around a poem om puri recites 20 minutes into the film…say it twice and cried everytime when Gobar describes the kala bandar inside us…
