Jaane tu ya jaane na reviews

Filmsdunia says Pappu pass ho gaya and this is Love Story 2008:

And despite it all, Jaane Tu… Yaa Jaane Naa is the film of the year till now. Because it speaks our lingo. Because it’s like a Dil Chahta Hai with real college kids — and not 40-somethings in pink pants. Because it’s breezy, it’s fun and it feels real good.

Akshay Mittal gives it 4 out of 5

I can just go on and on, great moments make a great movie and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na has simply fantastic moments in abundance.[..] Overall, Jaane Tu is immensely enjoyable and high on entertainment. If your looking for a movie on friendship and love, that makes you smile and laugh at times. Dont miss it!

But Black and White gives it a thumbs down reworking the hit song from the film as under (original line emphasis mine):

Kabhi Kabhi Amir Zindagi Me Yun Hi koi Teen ghante rota hai
Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi Me Yun Hi Koi Apna Lagta Hai

Kabhi Kabhi Amir Theatre Se Nikalna Usko Ek Sapna Lagta Hai
Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Woh Bichad Jaaye Toh Ek Sapna Lagta Hai

Aise Me Koi Kaise Apne Aansuon Ko Behnay Se Roke
Aise Me Koi Kaise Apne Aansuon Ko Behnay Se Roke

Aur Kaise Koi Sochle Ki This Film’s Gonna Be Okay
Aur Kaise Koi Sochle Ki Everything’S Gonna Be Okay

JTYJN is an extremely good movie
I personally would give it a 4 on 5 rating
Imran Khan makes an impressive debut of which mamu jaan should be glad
On the other hand Genelia is chirpy bubbly and a big bully
Nirav Mehta as Jiggy(Jignesh) makes us laugh at times
Rotlu is an extremely well written character
    Naseeruddin Shah stands out
What more..AR Rehman’s score is at bull’s eye
So at the end of day ………………
    Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naaaa??

the movie is really fresh, even though it is a repeated story line we have seen so many times but i think what makes it different is the way it has been presented. very natural not hyped and something people could relate to.. well done.

Totally loved the movie, a fantastic example of how the most trite storyline can be injected with genuine spirit and gusto by some good performances and smart scripting.

While Imran and Genelia did their requisite jobs as the lead pair (I still think Genelia has to do something about her diction though), some of the supporting cast and their corresponding characters contributed largely to make the film interesting for me. Amit’s character was beautifully conceived and portrayed magnificently by Prateik Babbar. At the first instance of Meghna’s “What’s this?” game I thought she would turn out to be an annoying Madeline Bassett (”Don’t you think the stars are God’s daisy chain? ) type character, but I liked the way she shaped up eventually - definitely flawed, but still just trying to find a way to cope with a painful situation. It’s these kind of things that make the film fresh and entertaining.

Oh, and to my considerable embarrassment, I was the only one to get the “Waiting for Godot” reference in the last scene, laughing out loud in an otherwise grimly silent theater :D

Amit’s chracter was beautifully conceived and portrayed magnificently by Prateik Babbar. At the first instance of Meghna’s “What’s this?” game I thought she would turn out to be annoying Madeline Bassett from PG Wodehouse (”Don’t you think the stars are God’s daisy chain? ) type character, but I liked the way she shaped up eventually - definitely flawed, but still just trying to find a way to cope with a painful situation. It’s these kind of things that make the film fresh and entertaining.

It was also a nice touch, making Mala a sort of metaphor for the audience, and the story converts even the most die-hard cynic and naysayer into a fan by the end of the film. Smart, that.

Oh, and to my considerable embarrassment, I was the only one to get the “Waiting for Godot” reference in the last scene, laughing out loud in an otherwise grimly silent theater :D
