Om Shanti Om, Saawariya reviews

Three months of publicity OD and the verdicts are finally out. First reviews coming out for both movies.

Om Shanti Om.

Mustafa gives it a thumbs-up:

[...]does Om Shanti Om lives up to the expectations? Was Main Hoon Naa a fluke? The answer is yes Om Shanti Om lives upto the expectation and we can easily that it even surpasses Main Hoon Naa[...]

Variety Magazine (?) is slightly circumspect:

With the hunky Khan onscreen almost the whole time, and seriously overdoing his mature-boyish charm in the first half, the movie also requires considerable tolerance of the King’s limited range.

And the dramatic Taran Adarsh goes as overboard as the publicity:

Cut the crap, cut the gyan-baazi, cut the will-it-won’t-it work naatak. Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan’s OM SHANTI OM is a true-blue masala entertainer. If MAIN HOON NA was a chauka, this one hits a sixer!

Sawaariya
The Bolly Blog gives it 2.5 Hairy Anil Kapoors (no I’m not kidding).

So much potential with this film. It could of been a beautifully moving film, but the lack of depth of characters and screenplay prevents viewers from forming a real attachment to the emotion of the movie.

Over at PFC, Ritu sums up

Saawariya feels like you’re watching a play taped on HD. There’s too much focus on the ‘look’. Saawariya’s undoubtedly a well packaged box. But big box, small wonder is the outcome of Saawariya.

At Rediff, Raja Sen does a Taran Adarsh

It’s hard to fathom what Bhansali expects anybody to like in this film. With close to a dozen songs assaulting us once every seven minutes, on average, there is no room for the narrative to flow.

Have you seen any of the movies? Have you posted your thoughts? We’d love to hear from you. Drop us a comment and/or tip us at contact[at]blogbharti[dot]com.

And of course, which one did you like?

I saw Saawariya on Sunday and I thought it was amazing!!! It was one of the most visually beautiful films I’ve ever seen. It should get an Oscar nomination for best costumes, set design or whatever the category is for such visually stunning movies.

both movies are ewxamples of horror cinema in the forrm od commercial potboiler…they are fake with no clear sentimets to show..artificial to the core as their sets..nonetertaining to the g. boredom exemplified…acting ..invisible…plot story and layout..unthought of ..miserable..miserable pathetic show…
