Weeping Sikkim, is a blog that chronicles an ongoing hunger strike by the youth of Sikkim state to demand government transparency and accountability regarding hydroelectric projects in Dzongu, the homeland of the Lepcha people.

Join Blogbharti facebook group. As normal citizens of Sikkim, we have the right to see our rivers and forests and natural resources protected and preserved for the present and the future. As the textbooks and elders tells us that the Eastern Himalayas and adjacent hill states of India are not only biologically richest in the Indian Subcontinent but also one of the richest in the world. This region has been rightly recognized as one of the 18 Biodiversity Hotspots in the world. Out of seven Endemic Bird Areas identified for the country, three extend to this region, so therefore, preservation is the need of the hour in a highly changing modern world and a fragile yet rich eco system.

I would like to extend my solidarity to the people fighting against the present agitation.
Furthermore I would like to take a note of questions towards our stste’s Chief Minister. You claim to be a so-called ‘MASSIAH’ for the people of Sikkim, so how come you are so stubburn about implementing the’Hydro Projects,
the people seem to object the implementation of the said proposal, so why are you dead over the matter?
If the people were willing, why on the whole of this chaotic earth would they have agitated against the projects!!
Or are they just agitating for the sake of “TIMEPASS”
Let me explain..! The Lepchas of Dzongri seems to be supporting the Hydel Projects in their area. Then, why this uproar ? It is they who should decide their future ? The Lepchas of Darjeeling should not interfere them…The Sikkimese govt has ensured their rights before implementing the projects. They have been provided two-storey building, given permanent job for one member of the family, free electricity etc besides hefty compensation for their land ! Where in the world will one find such sympathetic consideration? The Area will get developed and the ultimate benfit will be harvested by them. Not only them, the whole of Sikkim will be benifitted from the revenues earned by these projects ! Just look at West Bengal, the communist regime wearing masks butchered hundreds of their own kith and kin in Nandigram for land !
