Minister Twitter and Satire

Satire is all fine for the political class, as long as its done by themselves.

Tech girl writes:

On Oct 6, I started a Twitter account ‘Shashi Tharoor Fake’. The bio in this Twitter account had the word satire and the front page even linked to my satire blog techgirltalk.blogspot.com.

My Twitter account Shashi Tharoor Fake, started on Oct 6, has built up about 100 followers. Even the United Nations Information Centre was following me. By Oct 23, Shashi Tharoor’s team had contacted Twitter in USA to suspend my account.

Shashi Tharoor’s aides never emailed me to ask for clarification. Till today, Twitter has not given me an explanation on why I am locked out. Perhaps, if they had emailed me before cutting me out, this article would never have seen light of the day. Hell hath no fury like a female satirist scorned.

    Jo

Techgoss is just up to a publicity hunt and don’t miss that fact.
I have seen the handle @ShashiTharoorMP much before the said Oct 6 or so (techgoss says this was created sometime then).
It had NO, I mean absolutely NO mention of the fact that it was a fake a/c. Trust me, I did believe it was another a/c from Dr. Tharoor.

Only when Techgoss announced about the a/c on ‘her’ blog, the bio came up as fake Tharoor. So, an earlier case of clear impersonation, later masquerading with a face painted ’satire’.

I do NOT get it why the Mainstream media us up to another anti-Tharoor-twitter coverage.

If possible, contact @delbius and get details of how this handle’s bio looked earlier.
A wave of sympathy to get some blog hits. This is what techgoss is trying.

Edit: I meant Techgirl and not TechGoss.
    Apologies for the error.

    Hi Nikhil,

    Good evening.

Have just seen your comments suggesting that the Techgirl’s satire account ShashiTharoorMP existed before Oct 6 and this is a publicity stunt by Techgirl.

I can assure you that this satire account is not a publicty stunt. Writing about a Indian Minister is not a good idea for a publicity stunt. For many reasons as the Ministers are very powerful people.

If you email techgirlgoss@gmail.com, Techgirl will forward you the very first orignal email Twitter sent her on Oct 7

    ———- Forwarded message ———-
    From: Twitter
Date: Wed, Oct 7, 2009 at 3:42 AM
    Subject: Welcome to Twitter, ShashiTharoorMP!
    To: techgirlgoss@gmail.com

Naturally, the techgoss team do not expect you to believe us. Far from it. We actually encourage you to email Twitter and ask them if the email is genuine and to send you the exact date on which the satire account ShashiTharoorMP was created. If you can get Twitter to send you a screen dump before Oct 6 which has anything but Name – Shashi Tharoor Fake, link to her personal satire blog and the word satire in the Bio, we will give the charity of your choice a minimum donation of Rs. 10,000.

Your best course of action would be to form a group of 5 of your like minded colleagues and jointly mail Twitter about details of this satire account. If Twitter can give you evidence of ‘Shashi Tharoor Fake’ not being on screen before Oct 6, we donate 10K to your preferred charity.

    Sounds fair to you?

In our view you have made a honest mistake (like we do sometimes). But we will publicly apologize to you if there is proof Techgirl is doing this as a publicity stunt.

you can email editor @ techgoss to claim your reward.

    Warm regards

‘techgirl’ used the handle ‘ShashiTharoorMP’. There was no ‘fake’ in the name, she also used the same picture as the one used my Shashi Tharoor in his account. Anyone is free to setup a @Fakeshashitharoor or @faketharoor account, we will gladly support it.

The fact that she/he has gone to town with all kinds of allegations is a clear indication of the fact that she is more interested in her 15 minutes of fame.

Twitter has every right to deleted an account that would mislead people. We support twitter on this.

This is not correct. The screen dump taken on Oct 8 clearly shows that the name was ‘Shashi Tharoor Fake’. And it linked to her satire blog. And had the world ’satire’ in bio

But Jacob is right in saying the handle was ShashiTharoorMP

Perhaps, Mr. Jacob Joseph can kindly request Twitter to send Blogbharthi a screen dump of when Techgirl’s account was first created.

Twitter describes on its official website that Mr. Jacob Josephs’s boss is a Twitter Advocate in India. Mr. Joseph, please could you use this special relationship with Twitter to request Twitter to publish the screen as it looked on the very first day. If your office sends an email to Twitter they will present the evidence to the Indian public.

Is that too much to ask to resolve this one way or another?

Mr. Joseph, Can you please keep Blogbharti readers updated on such a request to Twitter?

    Thank you

Dear Bala, we are not going to ask for anything. If we come across a handle or image that would mislead people, we will report it.
