Mani Bhaumic is the inventor of the LASER technology which is used in Lasik eye surgery. He was born in a village in Bengal (India) when the independence movement was at its peak. His father was a school teacher and freedom fighter. He lived in abject poverty and was close to starvation and death many times in his childhood.
