Amodini finds ‘zero character development, almost no logic, desultory conversation and some very unfunny lines passed of as humor’ in Race. Phoenixnu asks: ‘When was the last time you saw something so bad that it was funny?’ Swati regrets: ‘Alas the director duo tries to be smart but not intelligent.’
Sai concludes his review with this line: ‘After reading all this, anyone should be clear that terms like sense or logic do not go well with the description of this film.’ I liked this line from Deep’s review: ‘I really didn’t understand why she had to go through all the pain of seducing Saif and all, she doesn’t look good doing that kind of stuff.’ He’s talking about Katrina Kaif (but I think every moviegoer needs to ask himself/herself that question too- why go through all that pain...?) Aditya doesn’t hesitate in pronouncing his judgment. He’s off in the very first paragraph: ‘Race is not one bad movie. It is many bad movies all rolled into one.’
Mrinkenti wishes he could tell you the story but ‘but it is too complicated to write. Like I said, i lost track of the story’ (Thanks, Mrinkenti). Rekha complains: ‘Just in case the less-than-impressive story, the less-than-thriling action scenes and the less-than-pleasing tunes are not enough to drive you to the loony bin, in the second half of Race the directors unleash upon the suffering audience the ridiculous spectacle of a grossly overacting Anil Kapoor (as inspector Robert D’Costa) and that fat bimbo Sameera Reddy as his sidekick Mini.’
I’d like to sum up (this summing up of reactions) this post with a few lines from Meetu’s review:
Don’t worry guys - its Bipasha, Katrina and Sameera - they won’t let you down if you are here for the skin show. They are not great at emoting. Anyway the story is more about their devious minds and not their emotions. You don’t really feel for any of the men either. They are all so engrossed in outsmarting the other that they forget to feel deceit or love.
Yes, don’t worry, there were some good reviews too. And the reviewers featured in this post also had some good things to say about some aspects of the film. But I like to look at the brighter side of things.
