Refractor examines certain ideas espoused in a recent Chandra Bhan Prasad article:
Linked by kuffir. Join Blogbharti facebook group. The only social logic available to untouchables is that they have to live with inequality and live at the mercy of Mai Baap upper castes. Here in fact CBP is admitting the strength of caste system. The caste system seems to be impenetrable. He is admitting his defeat. Actually he his behaving much like the Communists, whom he hates most, that the caste is not worthwhile to be objected to. Looks like that both of them say that economic prosperity will make the caste insignificant. He does not see an Indian society based on equality, mutual respect and dignity. What it means is a continuation of society based on inequality, contempt and hate.

“The principle of equal dignity and respect is foreign to Indian society. In the absence of equality and mutual respect the Indian society will again degenerate where equality of opportunity is not available to everyone but to a privileged few based on superior birth.”
- quoting Refractor
nice post. CBP surely seems to have got confused between equalilty and equal opportunity. But i think both the authors are arguing on a theoretical plane, an aspect that a lot of people and cases have already brought out. ‘Putting the same words in a different order’.
