Almost all the major rivers of China, Northern India and South East Asia originate from the Tibetan-Qinghai plateau. The Yangtse (Jinsha), Yellow (Huang Ho), Brahmaputra (Yarlung Tsangpo), Indus and Sutlej, Kosi into Nepal, Mekong and Salween, are some of the important rivers. China’s water resources are mainly in the south while droughts and floods alternate in the arid north and west. Apart from pollution, there is inefficient use of water.
