Iniyan challenges the indiscrminate use of the term Hindu for the followers of India’s indigenous religions:

One of the fundamental flaws in the stand of Periyarists, Ambedkarites and also related progressive forces in India is that they equate the non-Sanathanist religions and indigenous religious schools of worship of Bahujans and Dalits with the term “Hinduism” and “Hindu”, and this only plays into the hands of Sanathanists (”twice born” - “Dwijas”) who have their own racio-exclusivist religion of Sanathanism in which non-Sanathanist Indian Dravidian (Shudras and Panchams) are legally and constitutonally banned from fundamental sacramental and scriptural membership! Thus equating the non-Sanathanist religions and indigenous religious schools of worship of Bahujans and Dalits with the term “Hinduism” and “Hindu” drives Bahujans and Dalits into the hands of Sanathanist led Hindutva fascist forces who have divided and ruled Indian Dravidians through the caste system by negating the independent non-Sanathanist indigenous religions of Indian Dravidians through the blanket term “Hindu” which is applied fraudulently on Sanathanists and non-Sanathanists, thus making the latter delude themselves into believing the lie that they share a theological religion with Sanathanists.
