Chandni is disappointed with Barkha Dutt:
But more than anything else, I am outraged at this bullying of the bloggers, of curbing our freedom of expression, we the bloggers, common men and women.
And I am particularly sad that this step has been taken by Ms. Dutt, who is a journalist herself, and scrutinizes the lives and opinions of hundreds on a daily basis. How about a little internal scrutiny for a change? The blogs are out in the open so it probably makes the channels insecure , its “open” criticism, I bet there is enough hate mail along with the “letters of appreciation” that never see the light of the day in these offices!
Avik advises you not to mess with Barkha Dutt:
And what if you do? You might ask “What are you gonna do? Charge me with libel?” as Ms. Catherine Tramell did ask in Basic Instinct, when told not to smoke in the interrogation room, albeit with a puff of white smoke. What follows this is history, as they. If you don’t know this part of the store, I advise you rent the CD/DVD from the friendly neighborhood video store and get ready for some unexpected insights (pun intended). Whatever, leave Sharon Stone now and come back to our heroine here. Yes, I am talking about Ms. Dutt.
Karthik S thinks it’s an absurd move by NDTV. And is curious:
Plus, this issue has larger implications on what we can blog about. Can a producer sue a blogger for trashing a movie? Can a composer sue a blogger for blogging about his latest soundtrack in poor light? Why not sue Taran Adarsh if his review is not positive? Fascinating. Lets watch where all this leads to!
Amitabh Mukherjee too has some advice for Barkha Dutt:
Linked by kuffir. Join Blogbharti facebook group.Internet cannot be controlled. It is the voice of many. There is some good stuff there and a whole lot of trash. If you are a public figure, you take it all in your stride. If someone is criticizing you, then be assured that you have arrived. If something personal has been written about you – your family, your personal life – please take action; you have every right. But sending a pack of lawyers after a blogger who has quoted wiki is not the way of going about it. You, of all people associated with media, should know this. Unless, of course, you do not know the difference between personal and professional, criticism and libel, libel and slander. I will look forward to the next episode of We The People where you will discuss this issue. I am assuming you have the guts to do so. Meanwhile, go and hunt the entire Internet to find out all bloggers who criticise you. Happy hunting.
