The author appears to be blissfully unaware of what the kids talk in Tamilnadu. No kid ever mentions the word ’shudra’ here. In fact, most of the Tamilians (including Brahmins) have no knowledge of Sanskrit. The word ’shudra’ is one of the four letter words totally avoided by the household members.
This is reality.

Karnail Singh,

There is a difference between opposing free market fundamentalism and opposing free market per se. So your talk about bias towards certain socio-economic philosophy is plain wrong. Any opposition towards free market fundamentalism is not ad hoc. It was done after studying the underlying concepts of unregulated free markets from a completely scientific perspective. Making a comment on the bloggers intention without even following the blog appears to be an unfair criticism.

I always say that there is certainly some substance in some of these thoghts suppoeting free markets. But in the process of imitation of the advanced societies (only economics and that too due to lesser population densities)we forget the local conditions. of course equality is ordained by god but the noble idea got lost somewhere in the factionalism (on the basis of race, work division etc.). Now it is impossible to make Rome in a day. It is not like BPO that you go to US harbor some contacts there come back and start employing some young girls wearing tees on high stipend. social change is a very complex issue and if you feel concerned about it you will need to address to the doubts of extreme…….so & so….. first. You can not finish your work by simply writing here that has been written a no. of times in all types of communications right from blogs to Parliamentary debates. I am a socialist and want that order, shall I close my eyes like a pigeon on seeing the cat(capitalism). I am happy that You replied in…..

Reading the post makes you think that if you don’t think on particular lines you are not a part of the club. That too when there is an evident conflict in the thoughts of the blogger about the particular desirable socio-economic form of the society.

Karnail-ji,

It isn’t a matter of being “in a club,” you see. This is about trying to create some rational discourse in times that are, quite frankly, spinning out of control in the subcontinent. So even if this were about being “part of a club,” wouldn’t you rather be with those who, like the blogger Krish, are trying to argue for a more egalitarian society, a society that is free of prejudice? Wouldn’t that be a better world than one that is conditioned by racism, and casteism and all sorts of petty (but still virulent and dangerous) prejudices?

Come on, Singh-ji….
