‘War through women’

Nimmy deplores ‘war through women’:

Kashmir is place which is turning out to be goldmine for army and politicians. They need to ensure that the state of trouble remains the same, atleast for their life span as to make the most out of it for selfish motives. Militants on the other hand keep the area in unrest, and have random verses from Quran to ‘justify’, no matter what evil they are doing. India has an estimated 700,000 soldiers in Kashmir, fighting nearly a dozen rebel groups since 1989. In many areas, the region has the feel of an occupied country, with soldiers in full combat gear patrolling streets and frisking civilians.

Jammu and Kashmir is a tragedy. When you say, “Kashmir is place which is turning out to be goldmine for army and politicians. They need to ensure that the state of trouble remains the same, atleast for their life span as to make the most out of it for selfish motives…” it soundds cynical. But I can understand that. The tragedy is not the troubles, but the unwillingness to sort the mess out.

Regarding abuse of women: in seemingly trouble-free areas they aren’t safe. One can only imagine in a place like Jammu and Kashmir.

It defies me as to why we as a nation — though endowed with all cultural and intellectual greatness — are happy to wallow in problems and misery? Why can’t we just progress?
