Sidhu seems to have a sane advice for awarding the Bharat Ratna, given the current situation- Auction it!
Linked by mridula. Join Blogbharti facebook group.In view of the above, it would probably be best if the central government decides to go for an open auction of the Bharat Ratna, as well. The various political parties can then bid for the award (which would, of course, stop being an honour, thereafter), for a candidate of their choice. This could be a ‘win-win’ situation for the politicians as well as the ordinary people …

Our politicians never fail to surprise us! They always come out worse than we think they can get. This almost hourly addition to the names of politicians being recommended for the award of Bharat Ratan is reflective of Bharat Patan, as I have written in two posts in my blog. I think they should give this award to the Common Man this year and discontinue it thereafter.
Nice suggestion Vinod, about giving it to the common man and discontinuing it.
But they won’t do it! Since Sidhu has given them an ‘attractive’ idea, don’t be surprised if the bidding starts secretly in right earnest!
How about holding a SMS poll instead? Power to the people, right?
Mee too, plz nominate my name for this award :)
Ummm in bidding what will be the criteria because if it is money then govt can make some fast money then, after all politics is a very juicy business
All great ideas I must say!
There’s only one real choice this year. HH the Dalai Lama. ;-)
Dalai Lama is is from Tibet, and Bharat Ratna goes to only Indians I think.
Sameera: Not true; previous recipients have included Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa.
In fact, the idea to honour him is an Indian one;
you can read about some of the Indian-based campaigns and their activists here.
