The blogosphere has been largely silent on the Patan Gang-rape incident except for Atrocity News which covers incidents on Caste atrocities.
From news reports,
“The victim said she was gang-raped at least 14 times during the last six months in the college laboratory and computer room, where she was summoned under a threat that her career would be ruined by denial of internal assessment marks.”( The Hindu, Front Page, 6th February 2008 link)
While the newly elected Gujarat Government has taken some proactive measures in handling the case, there is still a lot that needs to be done to combat sexual harassment at educational institutions in India.
Following the guidelines given by the Vishakha Judgement, State Governments across the country need to take preventive action to keep our educational institutions free from this malaise.
The White Ribbon Campaign, India urges you to sign this petition demanding for Sexual Harassment Committees to be set up in Educational Institutions around the country.
