However it was the Turkish Muslims who are in the spotlight this Hajj due to their massive presence in Makkah. It signifies the return of Turkey to the Islamic fold after decades of experimentation with the European way of life.
Abdul Matin is blogging his Haj journey.
Whenever I think of how insular we are as a nation, posts like this one remind me how fortunate Indian Muslims are to be placed in a broader cultural context.

Dude,
Your comment makes me laugh at your utter lack of knowledge about the rich cultural diversity of the Muslims countries (there are more than 50 officially muslim countries and lots of others with a sizable muslim minority for eg Ethiopia - 45%, Uganda - 30%, India appprox - 14%, Russia - 20% etc).
Just take a look at the world map you will find Muslims to be one of most geographically dispersed community and culturally vibrant community.
We were the pioneers (even before europe had taken baby steps towards the Renaissance) in absorbing different cultures and nations into the fold of Islam and yet you can find that after more than thousand years of Muslim influence, indigenous cultures are still thriving.
You may argue that Bharat Mata also has lots of cultures within it .. but just take a look at its geographical spread … u ppl are just frogs in a well …. pardon the pun, he he
You deleted my comment …. how pathetic! and to think of it you call ur self ’shivam’ …. he he hooooooooo
we were the pioneers? who?
Abdul Matin: I don’t understand either of your comments
@kuffir - We is used as a ‘Royal Pronoun’ to imply ‘Muslims’. I presumed that you are intelligent enough to figure out that Abdul Matin is the name of a Muslim.
@Shivam - i hope u do now ….
Dear Shivam & kuffir,
Let me be honest with you both … I don’t know if i misunderstood Shivam’s comment in the first place. After going through countless negative articles in the mainstream media about Islam & Muslims, I presumed that your comment (”Whenever I think of how insular ….in a broader cultural context”) was disparaging.
If it was indeed written in the negative sense then I don’t have to apologize and I stand by what I said.
However, if I have indeed misunderstood your comments then i apologize for my aggressive replies. My heart is clean of any malice towards you.
Peace,
Abdul Matin.
@Abdul Matin: I think the meaning of what shivam wrote is extremely clear. So, you probably did misunderstand Shivam’s comment.
@ Abdul: I agree with madhat. Knowing Shivam, I doubt he would have said something against muslims. I can assure you on that.
Abdul Matin: What I said implies that Indian Muslims are in fact priviliged to be Muslims.
