The Story of India

A series by this name is being aired on PBS. The official blog is here on PBS Engage. Do visit or see the television series:

Wood traveled the Indian subcontinent “seeking in the present for clues to her past, and in the past for clues to her future.” In one episode, Wood explores how the political and the spiritual came together during the Age of Buddha. In another, viewers learn about India’s golden age from 300 to 1000 AD by following Wood as he participates in cultural festivals and family rituals around the country.

The six-part series captures amazing stories, such as being at the foot of a 57-foot tall statue for the Jain festival to honor the life of Bahubali, a saint. This celebration occurs every 12 years, and Michael Wood was in the crowd, covered in saffron powder and showered with sanctified water. Still, after criss-crossing India to shoot the series, not to mention a 20-year career, Michael Wood has more stories to share, and we’re honored to have him as our first guest of 2009.

I guess I saw that on Discovery channel. (or NGC, or may be History Channel). And i liked it specially the part which discussed Chand Ashoka and Dhamm Ashoka.

Well as per my knowledge, Budhism gained strength in India with the emergence of Mauryan Empire.

Anyways, I have my versions of story of India, in search of freedom, equality and justice
But for me, the real History maker of India was Chanakya who changed the socio-political frame of India providing the first unifier of the country in form of Chandra Gupta.

I liked the few of the series that I saw. Michael wood also published a book based on the series. It is quick and comprehensive. There are some minor inaccuracies that I noticed but overall it is a nice engaging book.

I am truly disgusted with your distortion of history and facts and propagation of your racist theory. The same theory “Aryan invasion” that was used by Britain to colonize India. Also, the Brits were cohorts wit

I agree with the “Aryan Invasion Theory”.

@dssd and Sandip: You know, history is nothing but a fable agreed upon. But like any other theory which you hold dear, it is a theory nonetheless.
