Deepak Iyer is fascinated with the film, and thinks that if nothing else, the casting was perfect — every actor/actress fit the role exactly. Something else he noticed:
A word about the titles first, which I am very surprised hasn’t been written about enough. This is the best titles section in a movie in quite a long time. We all know the faces that we see, but this is a tribute to those countless people who work equally hard behind the limelight, with dreams to make it big one day, to be ‘famous’ just for a moment. Luck By Chance tries to give them that moment, perfectly complemented by the track Yeh Zindagi Bhi. It is both dangerous and courageous to start a movie at such a high point; Luck By Chance takes that chance.
Hemanth Kumar thinks its a brilliant concept. Here is his take on the cameos:
And coming to the cameos, Hrithik has a terrific screen presence. Although his character isn’t really touched upon in later part of the movie, he engages the audience as long as he’s on screen. Aamir, Kareena, Abhisekh, John, Akshay and Shahrukh are good in their parts. I think I loved the cameo by Anurag Kashyap more than the others. It ain’t easy to mock yourself, as Anurag does when he accepts that he had written the script based on a foreign dvd which the director gave him! Sanjay Kapoor is a big surprise…he’s fantastic.
Reema analyzes four different aspects of the movie and comes out pretty impressed:
# The music – Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy have yet again given good music. The movie has a mix of different types but good songs.
# The movie – It has good dialogues, great portrayal of characters, witty humor and is visually appealing. Zoya has captured the reality of Hindi film industry pretty well with a good story and script. The movie’s second half lacks little bit of pace. The movie could have been 15 – 20 mins shorter. But overall its an enjoyable movie and definitely worth watching once. Go and watch Luck By Chance.
Mr. Inkenti, though, calls it slow and boring:
Firstly, the film is too long with nothing of substance going on. The jokes are again sitcom style and most ofluckbychance_movieposter2 the jokes or pokes at the industry are those we’ve seen and heard before. There is no novelty here; we all know that the industry today is dominated by star kids and family members. I wonder what exactly the film is about? It begins with Vikram’s story and ends with Sona’s reflections. The film’s title suggests that you need luck to make it big, but apparently our hero Vikram thinks that he struggled hard to get this role. Such nonsense, I tell you.
Ramesh Ram didn’t seem to like the movie either:
And then there is the insidious story about the dumping of a starlet by the leading man who makes good in the industry. It is the one singular success of this film that they have sold this storyline to the misguided feminist as if it were a triumph of konkana sen sharma’s charecter. Let us ge this straight . There’s this struggling newcomer who takes up with a more talented, experienced woman, and dumps her immediately after he becomes a star. and she wins…how? feels like honey irani(the mother in this mess of nepotism) is trying to get rid of one of farhan’s girlfriends.
A rather virulent review, that one.
