After 9/11, things haven’t been easy, and I’ve gotten used to the nasty remarks, the look that I get when holding a black Eastpack bag, the “FUCK MUSLIMS, GO HOME” comments graffitied on the trains and of course the, “Excuse me Miss, could you please step aside here” comment on airports. It’s become a part of life, and my reactions to anti-Muslims aren’t as vigorous as they used to be.
But I have my limits and sometimes, people tend to cross them. And then my blood boils.
It’s sad, but unfortunately, the only message that comes from Islamic leaders is about repression and violence. The largest rulers of Islam Saudi and Iran only propogate repression of women, people’s rights and violence. I think Turkey is the only exception which is quite liberal in it’s views.
