Praveen Dalal practices law at the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India in matters relating to hi-tech crime and cyber forensics. In a post teeming with links and much more useful data,he writes about the digital age of India:
Linked by sudipta. Join Blogbharti facebook group.Another issue that assumes significance in this regard is the fact that Internet is boundariless and no country can exercise “sovereignty” over it. A person sitting in one part of the World can create havoc in another part of the World. In the absence of “harmonisation of laws” and “common standards” it becomes very difficult to tackle cyber crimes and contraventions. An activity may be an offence in one jurisdiction whereas it may not in another jurisdiction. Further, in the absence of constructive “extradition arrangements” between two countries it becomes very difficult to extradite the offender to the concerned jurisdiction. The issues of Cyber Law, Cyber Security, Data Protection, etc are common to all the jurisdictions and Nations and we must enact an International Cyber Law Treaty to effectively deal with the same.

Nice selection Sudipta. Actually i liked the entire concept of this Blog. Further I agree with the observation of this article. I did some research in the field of cyber law and cyber forensics in India and was surprised by the callous attitude of government of India. It is because of persons like Mr. Praveen Dalal that we have some knowledge about these crucial fields.
The cyber law in India is contained in the Information Technology Act 2000. Even after the passage of almost 8 years the position has not improved. There is no attention towards legal enablement of ICT systems in India (kindly see http://reclaiming-india.blogspot.com/ in this regard).
There is a lack of cyber security and cyber forensics in India (kindly see http://computerforensicsinindia.blogspot.com/ ) in this regard. It is only after the incessant drive by Perry4Law and Mr. Praveen Dalal that government is finally working in this direction.
What I deduced from various discussions available at the internet is that we as citizens have many constitutional rights that must be safeguarded by our government. Out government is failing in its duty and blogs like yours are filling a much needed discussion gap. Keep it up.
I agree with Srikant. India is notoriously infamous for its indifference and careless attitude. I was going through a post available at http://computerforensicsinindia.blogspot.com/2008/10/digital-life-privacy-trust-cyber.html and was surprised to see the “real face” of ICT position in India. The claims of Indian government do not stand the test of capabilities, expertise and domain specific expertise. Surprisingly private initiative by Perry4Law and Mr. Praveen Dalal are much better than the false claims by the Indian government.
Srikant, Kunal.. thanks for your comments. Yes Mr Dalal is doing a commendable job indeed.
