Dev D reviews

9ones thinks that the writing lacks consistency — it swings between boring and very interesting constantly:

After Paro’s marriage, Dev D starts going downhill. Lenny/Chanda’s MMS scandal is straight out of life and the reasons that make her turn into a hooker are well explained. But the sequences between Dev and Chanda lack fizz. Equally sad are the scenes between Dev and Chunni. Besides, there’s not much movement in the story after a point and the goings-on get boring. The journey to the climax is prolonged and tedious.

Harshvardhan Pande gives a thumbs up for the music, calling it the most “Indian” music he has heard in a long time:

Amit Trivedi, take a bow! There are a few new gen music directors in India who seem to have forgotten that this is still a country where people speak and listen to Hindi and not NRI-style Hindi [a la Vishal Dadlani and co with songs like "thumka lagai ke she'll rock your world, my desi girl!"].
Those songs are fine till they become all that is being played everyday, but then every once in a while one needs to hear something Indian, and apart from A R Rehman who can compose awesome music, there was no other option.

In his 100th post on the blog, Darshit Joshi analyzes each song and gives a quick run-down:

2. Dev Chanda Themes : Two main characters of the film – Dev and Chandramukhi. So two tracks are dedicated to their love. This one has nice soft vocals [without words] by Neuman Pinto and Bianca Gomes. And its brilliant. but short.
3. Dev Chanda Themes 2 : Same theme but only whistling sound. Again a short but superb rendition.
It seems everybody is raving about the music at least!

If Devdas itself was so pathetic, its remake has to suck.
Does anyone have the biography of Kalki Koechlin?? Where can I get it???

After so long……a movies with something to watch. Anurag kashap & Abhey doel have outshine the two devdas made earlier which were too fictional.

The best part of the movises are:

    Songs- They were awesome.
Steamy Scenes- the director has successfully shot some very steamy scenes with required sensibility and it doesn’t makes you uncomfortable at all.

Finally, a must watch movie, both Abhey and Mahi have shown a class in acting.

Caution- sha rukh’s fans , please dont watch this movie as this has a class which lacks in his movies

The Film is a beauty well crafted and well presented.Hey i could have never thought that an accident will actually leave me smiling all the day and much more relaxed.Ya!I didnt got the movie ticket for slumdog so i got this one but it worked the film was so good.
Abhay is much better than shahrukh if not Dilip.Music is rocking sensuality is felt and story is to be taken.I was not able to get even the single flaw in the film.
Must watch and enjoy the emosional atayachar.
Hey let me tell u one thing Dev D will make u feel doing something better if u arent after heart broke.
And abhay has totally outshine sharukh in Bhansalis.

The movie is visually captivating but emotionally hollow. It does represent somewhat of a lost opportunity.

Its a great movie but it reminds me of all the cult movies..trainspotting, fear and loathing in las vegas, requiem for a dream.,the characters and story are great except the ending which is just too predictable. But i think the sex and the drugs are just too overplayed and its a very obvious attempt to be bold. Its a great attempt at making a different bollywood film but for me the direction lacks originality though the sound track and the visuals are simply amazing! I would give it 4/5 but it certainly is not a cult movie for me and wont go down n my best ever films list.

its a cult movie…….dont give a fuck wat anybody thinks.the thing is, its hard to face the reality but things like this happen in real life too.this movie is not for the people who cant relate with it.songs are amazing, scenes are realistic, wat else would anybody want???
its not a typical bolliwood movie guys, so dont fuckin pass any judgements.
    thanks

    Awesome movie!!

It was the best Hindi movie I watched in recent times. The movie will get a straight entry into Cannes Film Festival.

Great job done by all actors, director and the people behind the screen!!
